Until now, that is.

Today, developer Black Forest Games revealed that Bubsy is making a comeback attempt with Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, a game due out on PC and PS4 later this year. What’s more, Accolade - the franchise’s original publisher that went defunct in 2000 - has also come back from the dead, marking a Sierra-esque return to the fold.

The newest Bubsy title will reportedly follow the feline across a ‘bevy of exotic locations’ as he searches for the Golden Fleece. To get his mitts on such a coveted prize, Bubsy will utilize all of his old semi-iconic attacks and, thankfully, will even walk at a normal pace this time around.

Gamers can take a look at the first trailer for Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back below:

Accolade promises that over 100 new one-liners have been included for Bubsy’s return, where the bobcat will face off against a variety of enemies ranging from bees, sharks, Woolies, and even something Accolade describes as ’the gnarliest UFO ever to grace a Bubsy adventure’.

The charismatic feline was obviously intended to be a rival to other brand mascots like Mario or Sonic, but he failed to leave a lasting mark in the competitive videogame industry. Despite this, he still had 4 games across multiple platforms, and a more recent Steam re-release put together by a company that specializes in obtaining rights to abandonware. The interest this re-release produced may have played a key role in the production of Bubsy’s full return this year.

Suffice to say, it’s been a large surprise that a mascot rated as one of the most irrelevant of all time has arrived for an out-of-the-blue comeback attempt. As the official reveal stated, what’s the worst that could happen?

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back will release for PC and PlayStation 4 in the fall of 2017.
